U Mumba Future Stars is a parallel incubation programme launched in 2014, which offers Kabaddi players a platform to demonstrate their talent and be an integral part of U Mumba, the pro-team which represents Mumbai in Pro Kabaddi League. Conceptualised by U Sports, U Mumba Future Stars aims to train and incubate young athletes in the age group of 18-22 years and help them grow into professional players. With nearly 500 Kabaddi clubs in western region alone, the city boasts of a rich legacy and has numerous schools playing the sport. This led U Sports, is to develop a programme to unleash the vigour of a local game that was lurking in plain view.
Through this programme, U Sports aims to create a funnel which will serve as a mechanism for introduction, development and eventual selection of local talent into the main Pro League Team. The selection tournaments serve as a platform for Mumbai’s youth to exhibit their talent in Kabaddi.
